Being a lifeguard is an important job. Every day you are watching out for the safety of children and adults alike. Your lifeguard certification training could very well save a life. That means, when we have more lifeguards around, the world will be a much safer place to live.
Looking to Earn Your Lifeguard Certification?
At Five Points Washington, we value pool safety above all else. No one wants their child to be hurt in the water. That’s why we teach you how to enforce proper safety measures and prevent others from drowning through our American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Courses.
-Participants must be at least 15 years of age.
-Successfully complete a 300-yard continuous swim using front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both.
-Successfully tread water for 2 minutes using legs only.
-Successfully swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10 lb object from a depth of 7-10 ft using a surface dive, then return to starting point swimming with both hands on the object and keeping face at or near the surface of the water.
-Failure to complete the pre-requisites will result in removal from the course.
Our initial certification course is a blended learning course. Participants will meet on the first day of class to perform the pre-requisite swim tests, receive their materials for the course, and begin their introduction into the course. They will have the time between that date and the next scheduled class date to complete the online learning portion of the course. The last 2 days of class are in-person training and will conclude the course.
Participants must be in attendance for the entire length of the course in-person course and complete the entire online learning portion prior to concluding the course.
In order to pass the course, participants must successfully demonstrate all land scenarios and in-water skills and complete both multiple-choice tests with a score of 80% or higher. Refunds will not be given if a participant fails the course.

Initial Certification Courses are $375, except our Fall class, which is offered at our special rate of $275.
Re-Certification Courses are $135.
All certifications are valid for 2 years.
When Are the Classes?

Lifeguard Certification Courses
July 2020: Pre-reqs*: 7/1: 4-6 PM, 7/10 & 7/11: 9 AM-6 PM. registrations are closed
Due to Covid and social distancing guidelines, the Red Cross stipulates:
The class will be limited to 9 participants plus an instructor, with 10 total. Each participant will have the same partner for the entirety of the course, and the same small group for group saves and group CPR), the facility is open to members only but the pool space we use will be just for the class. The facility requires temperature checks for everyone who enters. For the CPR content in the classroom, the students will be spread out and have masks and gloves on. Unfortunately, the water portion will be difficult to spread 6 feet and have masks on since they will be submerging into water, so participants will just be exposed to their partner and small group. All students will have their own manikins and be given their own mask, and equipment will be cleaned routinely. We are taking precautions as designated by the Red Cross. If you have further questions about the safety precautions we are taking please email Brad Weaver at email@example.com to get a list of the Red Cross guidelines.
